Two Words Showing Blacksburg’s Community

BLACKSBURG, Va., Apr. 17, 2016 – One's stop. Virginia Tech students stop and turn to say thank you, as they get off the bus. The two words on heard on nearly every bus ride. Photo: Drew Davis.

It may not seem like much, but every day if you have to ride the bus here at Virginia Tech, often, you’ll hear two words. These two words may not seem like much: you might not even fully hear them, but these two words are said at the end of nearly every bus ride. But what are these words and why is their impact so strong?

Every football game you see the same videos tying in former players and coaches and the community we strive to have here in Blacksburg. The videos almost always end in the previous Hokie coaches and or players saying “This Is Home.” This means people don’t forget being at Virginia Tech, “a home,” and the way people act.

Now I’m sure you reading this and thinking what about the bus rides and those two words said so often and what are the words and how do they tie into the football videos? But really the athletes and coaches not forgetting where they once were, deals with those two words in every way.

Thank you: the two words mentioned so often as people get off the bus. Those are the two words. The words show the bus driver the riders appreciate the service they’re doing. The words don’t seem like much but they can bring up the driver’s day, may your day yourself being better for being nice, and start a positive trend that has stayed the course in Blacksburg.

The two words are just a small example of such community here at Virginia Tech and showing videos at football games, one of the most toughest and most combative sports is just another example.

Players and coaches don’t forget where they come from because of the people here in Blacksburg; because of the people who live and stay here and because of the kindness they show: even if it’s just two words.
